Off-Site Data Backup
A technology that has developed in the last few years is offsite data backup/vaulting. With this system your computer goes to work after you’ve gone home. At a time determined by you, your computer comes to life and compresses the files that you have chosen, encrypts them, and then sends them via the Internet, on a secure connection, to the backup service’s servers.
When looking at this to add to your backup plan, you need to look at automatic daily backup. If you are looking for HIPAA compliance, then that software will also need to keep a log so that you can add it to your documentation. If your concern is for HIPAA compliance, then the backup company, as all your vendors should, needs to have a chain of trust agreement.
